What has changed in the Arсtida team's lineup?
Our team has grown over the past year. You may have noticed this from the job openings we regularly post. By the end of the year, another significant change took place at Arсtida.
Arсtida co-founder Ilia Shumanov will remain in the position of CEO, but will focus on the organization’s strategic development and the formation of Arсtida’s board, while the coordinator of the analytical division, Nail Farkhatdinov, will take on the role of executive director and be responsible for operational tasks.
Ilia Shumanov:
“Over the past year, many changes have taken place in the Arctic that will have a negative impact on the region’s future: an expanded military presence, environmental violations, and the suppression of the voices of Indigenous peoples. The Arctic continues to be a zone of confrontation rather than one of cooperation and dialogue. Together with the Arctida team, we are striving to work toward changes that can bring us closer to a clean and transparent Arctic, reducing the likelihood of disaster.”
Nail Farkhatdinov:
“The economic and political activities of governments and large corporations will remain the focus of our team — we will continue to monitor infrastructure projects, assess their impact on the climate crisis, and document violations related to corruption and the rights of indigenous peoples. Our goal remains a sustainable and complex Arctic that is not reduced to geopolitics.”
